Daily Sumi Ink

“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”
George Bernard Shaw
It's the New Year, and I like making one resolution at the beginning of each year. I may not always keep it consistently, but it gets me off to a good start. A couple of years ago, my resolution was to read daily, not on the computer, but to actually hold a book in my hand. It's a habit that I continue now, and not just most mornings, but also at night before I go to bed.

Last year my resolution was to sketch daily which I did most days.
Thumbing through my sketches from last year was like going through old family pictures or school yearbooks. These quick drawings showed me a history and a collection of ideas, many of which morphed into art journal pages, collage works, photographs and paintings.

This year I will work with sumi ink daily. It's a general resolution, so I will not be limited by how I use sumi ink.
And on those days where the art goes in the trash (like it did the first three days), I'll have faith that one of these times, the sumi magic will happen (like it did today) and I'll have an art work that brings on a smile.

I really like the contrast of a painted background with sumi strokes. It still has a very soothing feel with the subdued shades that you chose. Happy New Year and look forward to seeing more results from your resolution.
ReplyDeleteI love your sumi piece and your photographs are beautiful! It's already a bit past the start of the New Year, but I'm still debating on a sketching resolution...
ReplyDeleteThanks Arnoldo!
ReplyDeleteLisa, thank you and it's never too late to start!
That is beautiful, the texture in the background is reflected in the sumi marks if you look closely. My New Year's resolution is to hold lightly to my art, dont worry about what it looks like!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the quote you posted here by George Bernard Shaw. It's so very true. Wonderful work and I really love the cosy view of the photo. :)
ReplyDeleteGood New Year Juana! I am glad that I can come and see your art. I wish your resolution is to satisfaction to you and I believe it is. It will be interesting to see your paintings here.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year and I hope you stick to your resolutions.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing how the sumi ink paintings come out - the one you have posted is fab.
Happy SS
