Serenity I, male figure linocut on rice paper, 4 x 6 inches |
As my sufferings mounted I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my situation -- either to react with bitterness or seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. I decided to follow the latter course.

If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way
― Martin Luther King Jr.
It's a three-day weekend for most of us here in the USA to honor Martin Luther King jr. I am grateful for the advances MLK made to give voice to those who did not have one and for his pursuit of equal opportunity for all.

Visit the Whitehouse.gov to view the President's full presidentional proclamation for Martin Luther King jr. federal holiday.
On a side note: my latest linocut is of a sitting male figure. I printed this on rice paper in orange. I really like how the rice paper picks up the ink and groves of the linocut and prefer the rice paper to other printing papers.

ReplyDeleteHappy SS and enjoy your extended weekend.
It's really great how you have translated a male figure into this wonderful piece of art!
ReplyDeleteVERY NICE print, Juana... great tension and energy! And love the MLK Jr quote... this line especially sings: "...seek to transform the suffering into a creative force..." WOW! So good to be back here visiting you. I've been in a post-holidays slump and down a tech issues rabbit hole... ((HUGS))
