Lately, I've been painting without any reference and this 6 x 8 inch portrait came into being purely from imagination. 

It's fascinates me how human beings can see forms, faces and figures spontaneously in unrelated, ambiguous stimuli. We do that when we cloud watch.  It's called Pareidolia.

I often lay down washes of watercolor or ink and then at some point in this process, a figure or face will appear. It ranges from abstract to expressionist. This particular portrait is less abstract.
